I Say I’m Fine

I’m crying… crying hard. I’ve broken everything in my room. I shout, I scream, and I don’t even know why. In anger, I slam my hand against the wall. For a second, the pain in my hand feels stronger than the pain in my heart. And then… I just get tired.

“So, Kanak, how are you doing these days?”

The question shakes me. I blink and come back to reality. Everything around me is different—happy faces, people sipping their coffee, talking, laughing. Even I’m sitting with some nice people. I take a few seconds to recover and answer, “Good…everything’s good.” I smile.

Once more, I did it. And who knows how many times I have done it before.

Who says it’s easy to hide thousands of problems behind a smile? It’s not easy. It’s exhausting. It’s wrong. But we all do it. Because sometimes, no one wants to know what’s really going on inside. So, we build a world in our minds—a world where we cry, scream, break, and heal quietly.

Do you feel the same?
