The Honor of Being a Safe Place

My best friends don’t call me very often. They’re busy—not just with their careers but with everything else. They have people demanding their time and attention, responsibilities pulling them in every direction. Life is full, and sometimes they barely have time to breathe. But when they do take a breath, they call me. And then we talk for an hour, sometimes even more. They empty themselves out, recharge, and then head back into their busy lives.

Do you know what that makes me? Their safe place.

They know I’ll be there for them—even if they don’t call every day, week, or month. They know I’ll be the same person, steady and waiting. They can come to me when they don’t feel okay, no pretense, no judgment. And honestly? That makes me feel honored. In a world where everyone’s chasing attention, being someone’s quiet comfort is rare. Being the person they come back to—not because they have to, but because they trust me with their real, raw selves—that’s something I truly cherish.

And that? That’s more than enough.
