The Strangers They Became

For a long time, I’ve been hearing noises. Noises of half-gone people. They’re not here anymore, but their voices, memories, and behaviour are still around, like footprints that haven’t disappeared.

I let them go. Yes, I did.
I don’t want them back in my life. There’s no space.

Do they even exist anymore? Like I care.

But just once, it would have been great if they had clarified the reason for that change. I didn’t understand what happened all of a sudden at the time, nor do I now. One minute, we were good together, and then BOOM, the next minute, they changed, and I kept wondering which version of them was real.

Sometimes people don’t change for better or worse. They just change. They become someone else in a fraction of time. Or maybe they show that one hidden personality we never wanted to see. And that’s how they become strangers.
