Who are you competing with and why?
You created your page to share your art, your thoughts, your truth. But somewhere along the way, you got stuck in a race, the race for followers, likes, and reach. You tried everything: hashtags, engagement tricks, even those “growth hacks.” And at the end of the day, you realise… It’s all just numbers.
Honestly, when I started my own page, I also wanted followers. My goal was 1K, and it took me three years to reach it. Because I’ve always believed that if I truly deserve something, I’ll get it the right way.
But I’ll admit I still get tired of seeing low reach. It hurts sometimes. Still, I show up every day, and I’ll keep showing up, even if only one person reads my work, because even one genuine reader is enough. I feel lucky to have people who support and appreciate what I do.
Over time, I’ve changed how I look at social media. I now follow writers who inspire me, not the ones who intimidate me. I’ve realised that I still have a lot to learn, and that’s okay. I’m not here to compete anymore. I’m here to create.
So if you’ve lost your way in this algorithm jungle, take a step back. Remember why you started. We should be grateful for what we already have. Let’s stop blaming the system and start taking responsibility.
Don’t let the artist or the human die in you for the sake of a few numbers.
