Support doesn’t always look like agreement. Sometimes, to support your loved ones, you want to go against them, especially when you can see that the path they choose will lead them only to terrible situations. But this kind of support is not normal because most of the time, support feels simple. Standing with someone so you don’t make things complicated. Letting them choose whatever they want. It keeps things calm. It keeps things easy. But is it possible to do all the time?
Because if you care about someone, how can you watch them go in the wrong direction? And still call it support? Is agreement always a form of support, or just a way to avoid making things uncomfortable? Your silence may protect your comfort, but not the person.
So, why does agreement feel like support? Maybe because agreement feels safe. You can easily avoid conflict and keep your relationship smooth. It is the comfort that you choose when you don’t question your loved ones and agree with whatever they say.
When you care for someone, you want the best for them. You being honest with them because, you know, even if it makes them uncomfortable or hurts them at first, it will save them from harm. Sometimes, when a person is in a situation, they can’t understand things clearly. At that time, it is your responsibility to show them the right path. This is why a person needs mature and sensible people in their life.
Not everyone who agrees with you supports you. And not everyone who disagrees with you is against you. So, it is wise to surround yourself with those people who have enough courage to tell you the truth and show you the right path when you go wrong. It will make your life less chaotic and calmer.
