Love Without Fear

,

She sat on the couch, holding a glass of wine, lost in thought about her next story. The party was almost over when someone called her name from behind.

β€œVartika?”

It was her friend, Alisha.

β€œWhy are you sitting here alone? And where’s your man?” Alisha asked.

Vartika smiled and pointed toward the corner where a group of people stood, laughing.

β€œI’ll never understand you,” Alisha said, lowering her voice. β€œHow can you never feel jealous?”

β€œNo, why should I?” Vartika replied calmly. β€œPeople get jealous when they’re afraid of losing someone. But I don’t feel that way. I know he loves me the way he looks at me… Ah, that looks like I can feel it. And anyway, this is what happens when you date a handsome man.” She winked.

Amandeep Singh β€” Vartika’s boyfriend. Handsome, tall, and well-built, with a quiet charm that always drew attention, even back in college. His decency and kindness had their own gravity. Vartika, on the other hand, 5’7″, confident, and beautiful, had an energy that made people pause. Her directness intimidated most boys, but not Amandeep. College was where they had first fallen in love.

β€œAnd what if he leaves you someday?” Alisha asked.

β€œIt’s possible,” Vartika said. β€œFalling out of love is normal. Love is a feeling, and feelings are temporary. You can’t force someone to stay. If they want to leave, they will with or without your permission. Honestly, I don’t want anyone in my life who doesn’t belong there. If someone doesn’t love me, it’s better they leave. It’ll hurt, yes… but leaving is still better than cheating.”

Alisha sighed. β€œWhen did you land on this planet?”

Vartika chuckled, and the two burst into laughter.

  4. Definitely a beautiful story. And also it has such a strong message in between its lines. It is always good to be practical even in terms of love so that anytime anything goes wrong we shall remain less hurt by the situation and are able to move on. Life has a lot to offer and one should never ruin it just because someone decided to leave. Though it is more hard said than done, but we can always keep trying. Thanks for sharing this post.
